Amber Palace Jaipur, also known as Amer Fort, is one of the most famous historical attractions in Rajasthan. Located around 11 km from Jaipur city, this magnificent fort sits on a hilltop overlooking Maota Lake and showcases the royal heritage of Rajput architecture.
Built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I, Amber Palace is a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. The fort is constructed using red sandstone and marble, making it one of the most photographed landmarks in Jaipur.
History of Amber Palace
Amber Palace was originally built by Raja Man Singh I and later expanded by successive rulers of the Kachwaha dynasty. Before Jaipur became the capital city, Amer was the main seat of power.
The fort complex includes royal halls, courtyards, temples, and beautiful gateways. It remained the residence of Rajput rulers until Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II shifted the capital to Jaipur in 1727.
Architecture of Amber Palace
The fort is divided into four main courtyards:
Jaleb Chowk
Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience)
Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience)
Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace)
The Sheesh Mahal is especially famous for its intricate mirror work. Even a small flame can illuminate the entire hall due to reflective mirror designs.
