Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Introduction

Vaibhav Suryavanshi (born March 27, 2011) is a young Indian cricketer who is quickly becoming one of the most exciting talents in the country. Hailing from Tajpur, Samastipur, Bihar, this left-handed batsman and part-time slow left-arm orthodox bowler has already broken several records at a very young age. Currently, he plays for Bihar in domestic cricket and for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His journey is a true example of his talent and hard work.

Early Life and Background of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav was born into a simple family in Bihar. His passion for cricket was clear from a very young age. His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, a farmer with a love for cricket, noticed his son’s special talent early. Vaibhav started playing cricket at the age of four, with his father being his first coach. To support Vaibhav’s dreams, his father made many sacrifices, even selling part of his farmland to pay for his training. At nine years old, Vaibhav joined a cricket academy in Samastipur and later trained under Manish Ojha, a former Ranji Trophy cricketer.

Domestic Cricket Career of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav’s skills shone brightly in age-group tournaments. He made headlines at just 12 years old by scoring 400 runs in five matches for Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. This brilliant performance helped him get selected for Bihar’s Ranji Trophy squad.

Record-Breaking First-Class Debut

In January 2024, Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai at the age of 12 years and 284 days. This made him the second-youngest cricketer to play in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar and the fourth-youngest overall in the tournament’s history. He broke the modern-era record held by Yuvraj Singh (15 years and 57 days), becoming the youngest first-class debutant after Alimuddin in 1942-43.

Youngest in T20 and List A Cricket

Vaibhav continued to create history in other formats. In November 2024, at 13 years and 241 days, he became the youngest player to debut in T20 cricket, playing for Bihar against Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In December 2024, he also became the youngest Indian to play List A cricket, making his debut for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at 13 years and 269 days.

India Under-19 Recognition

Thanks to his consistent performances, Vaibhav got selected for the India B Under-19 team in 2023, where he scored 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries. In September 2024, he made his debut for India Under-19 against Australia Under-19s and impressed everyone by hitting a 58-ball century — the fastest by any Indian Under-19 player and the second-fastest in Under-19 international cricket history.

Indian Premier League (IPL) Journey

Vaibhav’s talent soon caught the eyes of IPL franchises. Before the IPL 2025 auction, he was called for trials by the Rajasthan Royals. He impressed everyone and was shortlisted, becoming the youngest player to enter the auction at just 13 years old.

Youngest IPL Debutant and Centurion

On April 19, 2025, Vaibhav made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants at the age of 14 years and 23 days, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the IPL. He hit a six off his very first ball and scored a confident 34 runs. Just a few days later, on April 28, 2025, he became the youngest player to score a century in IPL history, smashing a brilliant 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. This was the second-fastest century in IPL history and the fastest by an Indian.

Playing Style of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav is known for his stylish left-handed batting and his ability to score runs quickly. He has a wide range of shots and plays with a maturity that is rare for his age. He can also bowl slow left-arm orthodox when needed, but his main strength is batting at the top order.

Age Controversy

Even though Vaibhav’s achievements are amazing, some people have questioned his official date of birth. In a 2023 interview, he mentioned celebrating his 14th birthday in September 2023, which raised doubts about his real age. However, these small controversies have not taken away from his outstanding cricket journey.

Recent Performances of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

As of April 28, 2025, in his short IPL career so far, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already shown great potential. His match-winning century against Gujarat Titans and his confident debut innings have made him one of the brightest young stars to watch for the future.

This development comes as a major relief for the Royals, who have been led by Riyan Parag in Samson’s absence. While Parag has shown glimpses of leadership potential, Samson’s experience and tactical acumen are invaluable assets to the team.

Samson’s Injury and Road to Recovery:

Samson sustained a finger injury during the India-England T20I series earlier this year, which required surgery and a period of rehabilitation. This unfortunate setback forced him to miss the initial stages of the IPL 2025 season. However, he has been diligently working on his recovery at the NCA, undergoing rigorous fitness tests and regaining his full strength.

The NCA’s Crucial Role:

The NCA played a pivotal role in Samson’s recovery, providing him with world-class medical care and rehabilitation facilities. The rigorous assessment conducted by the NCA medical team ensured that Samson was fully fit to resume both his wicket-keeping and captaincy duties.

Impact on Rajasthan Royals:

Samson’s return as captain is expected to have a significant impact on the Rajasthan Royals’ performance. His leadership qualities, combined with his explosive batting style, make him a formidable force in the IPL.

Leadership: Samson is a natural leader who inspires confidence in his teammates.
Road Ahead for Rajasthan Royals:

With Samson back at the helm, the Rajasthan Royals will be looking to climb the points table and secure a place in the playoffs. They have a talented squad, including players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Trent Boult, who are capable of producing match-winning performances.

The team’s upcoming match against the Punjab Kings will be a crucial test for Samson and his team.
Predicting the Rajasthan Royals’ Jaipur Schedule:

BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) released the new retention policy for IPL on Saturday, September 28. Foreign players appear to be suffering losses due to the policy rules. Under this, all foreign players will have to register in the mega auction. If they do not register, they will not get entry into the mini-auction to be held later.

The BCCI has implemented stricter rules for the upcoming IPL season. Any player who withdraws from the tournament after being sold in the auction will face a two-season ban. Additionally, foreign players will have a salary cap of Rs 18 crore per season. This new rule will have a significant impact on the auction, as some of the highest-paid foreign players in the previous season, such as Mitchell Starc, who was sold for Rs 24.75 crore and Pat Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore, may be priced out of the market.

Question: What is the retention rule of IPL?

Answer:

The new IPL retention rule allows franchise teams to retain a maximum of 6 players before the mega auction. This includes a maximum of 5 international players and 2 uncapped players. The international players can be from any country, while the uncapped players must be from India.

For example, if the Mumbai Indians retain all 5 international players, they will only be able to retain 1 uncapped player as the sixth player. However, if they retain 4 international players, they can retain 2 uncapped players. This rule provides teams with flexibility in retaining their key players while also giving them the opportunity to invest in young Indian talent.

Question: What changed in the Right to Match card?

Answer:

The IPL has reintroduced the Right to Match (RTM) card for the upcoming season, allowing teams to retain up to 6 players before the auction or use up to 6 RTM cards during the auction. The number of RTM cards available to a team depends on the number of players they retain before the auction.

If a team retains 3 players, they will have 3 RTM cards left. If they retain 4 players, they will have 2 RTM cards left. Teams can use their RTM cards to match any bid made for a player they had the right to retain.

A new rule has been added to the RTM process, allowing the bidding team to increase the price of the player. For example, if Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retains 5 players and has 1 RTM card left, and Hyderabad buys Moeen Ali in the auction for Rs 6 crore, CSK can use their RTM card to match the bid. However, Hyderabad can then increase the price to Rs 9 or Rs 10 crore. If CSK chooses to match this increased bid, they will have to buy Moeen Ali at the higher price. If they do not match the bid, Moeen Ali will join Hyderabad at the increased price.

In the 2018 mega auction, Bengaluru had bought Yuzvendra Chahal through the Right to Match card.

Question: How much will it cost to retain a player?

Answer:

The IPL has increased the purse limit for teams to Rs 120 crore, allowing them to retain up to 6 players. The retention fees for the first three players are Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, and Rs 11 crore, respectively. If only 3 players are retained, Rs 43 crore will be spent from the purse.

Retaining a fourth player costs Rs 18 crore, and the fifth player costs Rs 14 crore. An uncapped player can be retained for Rs 4-4 crore. The deadline for submitting player retentions is October 31, 2024, at 5 PM.

Teams can choose to retain 5 international and 1 uncapped player, spending Rs 79 crore, or 4 international and 2 uncapped players, spending Rs 69 crore. If only 5 international players are retained, the cost will be Rs 75 crore.

This new retention rule provides teams with flexibility in retaining their key players and investing in young Indian talent.

Question: How did foreign players suffer losses?

Answer

The IPL has introduced a new rule limiting the amount paid to foreign players. In the mini auction, foreign players will not receive a retention value higher than the most expensive Indian player sold in the mega auction. For example, if the highest-paid Indian player in the mega auction is sold for Rs 16 crore, foreign players cannot be bought for more than Rs 16 crore in the mini auction.

If a team retains an Indian player for a higher amount than the most expensive Indian player sold in the mega auction, the foreign player’s salary cap will be adjusted accordingly. In the given example, if Mumbai Indians retain Suryakumar Yadav for Rs 18 crore and Rinku Singh is sold for Rs 15 crore in the mega auction, foreign players can only be bought for up to Rs 15 crore in the mini auction.

Teams can still bid on foreign players for higher amounts, but the excess amount will be deducted from their purse without being paid to the player. This excess amount will be used by the BCCI to invest in developing Indian cricket.

This new rule aims to promote Indian talent and ensure a more equitable distribution of resources within the IPL.

Question: What are the new rules for foreign players?

Answer:

The IPL has implemented stricter rules for foreign players. They must now register for the mega auction to participate in the league. Failure to register will result in a ban from the next mini auction. Additionally, any foreign player who withdraws from the tournament after being sold in the auction will face a two-season ban. However, this ban does not apply in cases of injury, provided the player obtains permission from their national board.

These new rules aim to ensure that foreign players are committed to the IPL and to prevent teams from being adversely affected by late withdrawals.

Question: What is the rule for uncapped players?

Answer:

The uncapped player rule has been reintroduced in the IPL, allowing teams to retain any Indian player who has not played international cricket for at least 5 years. This rule was previously in place from 2008 to 2021 but was not utilized.

MS Dhoni, who led Chennai Super Kings to 5 IPL titles, is eligible to be retained as an uncapped player under this rule. Since his last international match was in 2019, CSK can retain him for a fee of only Rs 4 crore.

This rule provides teams with an opportunity to retain experienced players at a significantly reduced cost, giving them more flexibility in their spending.

The India women’s national cricket team will take on the New Zealand women’s national cricket team in the first match of Group A of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Friday, October 4, 2024. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams in a T20 World Cup, having faced each other in five T20Is earlier. New Zealand have won four of those five matches, with India winning the most recent one in 2020.

Both teams have been in good form recently, with India winning three out of their four matches in the T20I series against England in September 2024. New Zealand also won three out of their four matches in the T20I series against Australia in September 2024.

India has participated in 18 World Cups, including 10 ODI World Cups and 8 T-20 World Cups. The team also reached the knockout stage 9 times, but sometimes lack of experience and sometimes the pressure of big matches came in the way of India. The team faced defeat 6 times in the semi-finals and 3 in the final. India has not been able to win even a single knockout match in the T-20 World Cup.

In 10 points in the story, you will understand how India’s journey has been so far in women’s cricket.

Beginnings in the 1970s: Women’s cricket in India officially began in the 1970s, with the Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) being founded in 1973. The first recorded women’s international match involving India was against the West Indies in 1976. The Chief Minister of Bihar honoured the India Women’s Cricket Team after registering its first Test win in Patna against West Indies in 1976. In 1978, India played its first ODI match against England directly in the World Cup. The tournament took place in India, but India Women’s performance was very poor. In the 4-team tournament, the team stood fourth after losing all three matches. In 1982, the team won 4 matches, but due to 8 losses this time it got fourth place in the 5-team tournament. The team did not participate in 1988 due to internal board disputes.

Early Struggles: During the initial decades, women’s cricket in India struggled with a lack of funding, infrastructure, and recognition. Players often had to fund their travel, buy their equipment, and balance cricket with other jobs or academic pursuits.

First World Cup Appearance (1978): India made their debut in the Women’s World Cup in 1978, which was held in India itself. Despite limited resources and experience, India’s participation was a major milestone for women’s cricket in the country.

Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami’s Emergence: The early 2000s saw the rise of two iconic figures—Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami—who became cornerstones of Indian women’s cricket. Mithali became the face of Indian women’s cricket with her calm leadership and consistent run-scoring, while Jhulan became the world’s leading wicket-taker in women’s ODIs. In 1993, Team India performed slightly better and finished fourth among 8 teams. The 1997 World Cup took place in India only. Under the captaincy of Pramila Bhatt, Team India won the quarter-finals and made it to the semi-finals, but lost to Australia. In 1999, Mithali Raj made her debut for India at the age of 16. After 3 years, fast bowler Jhulan Goswami also made her debut. Both of them took up the responsibility of completely changing Indian cricket in the next 20 years. India again reached the semi-finals in the 2000 World Cup, but this time lost to champions New Zealand. In 2005, India Women again made a comeback and defeated New Zealand in the semi-finals and made it to the finals. The team had to face defeat from Australia in the final, but from here the foundation of change in Indian women’s cricket was laid.

2017 World Cup Breakthrough: India’s remarkable run in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup, where they reached the final, became a defining moment. Though they lost to England, their performance captivated millions and earned them newfound respect and recognition back home. This was a pivotal moment in increasing visibility and support for women’s cricket in India.

Start of T-20 World Cup; lost 2 semi-finals in 5 events. The T-20 World Cup also started in women’s cricket in 2009. India made it to the semi-finals of the first two events but lost to New Zealand and Australia. In 2012, 2014, and 2016, the team yearned to play the knockout stage. Coming close to the trophy in the 2017 ODI World Cup inspired the young generation in the country to play cricket. Due to this, players like Jemimah Rodriguez and Shefali Verma entered the team. Harmanpreet and Smriti Mandhana proved themselves in 2017 itself. Therefore, Harman was also made the captain of the 2018 T-20 World Cup. Under the captaincy of Harman, India Women again reached the knockout of the T20 World Cup after 8 years but lost the semi-finals to England. The team again went one stage further in 2020 and made it to the finals, but this time lost to Australia. This was India’s first final in the T-20 World Cup. In the 2023 T-20 World Cup, India faced Australia in the semi-finals itself. In front of the target of 173 runs, the team at one time scored 133 runs after losing 4 wickets. Here only 40 runs were needed on 33 balls; Harmanpreet was set. She tried to take 2 runs on the next ball, but before reaching the crease, her bat got stuck, and she was run out. Due to poor finishing, India missed reaching the World Cup final by a margin of 5 runs.

BCCI Takes Over (2006): In 2006, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took over women’s cricket from the WCAI, bringing it under the same umbrella as men’s cricket. This move brought greater resources, better coaching, and increased visibility to the women’s game.

Rise of Young Stars: After 2017, young players like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Shafali Verma started making a significant impact. Harmanpreet’s blistering 171* in the 2017 World Cup semi-final against Australia is one of the most memorable innings in women’s cricket history

Increased Investment and Contracts: With the BCCI’s involvement, players began receiving central contracts, match fees, and improved facilities. This professionalisation has helped create a more competitive environment and motivated young girls across the country to pursue cricket as a viable career option.

The Launch of Women’s IPL (2023): After years of demand, the Women’s Premier League (WPL), India’s version of the IPL for women, was launched in 2023. This marked a major step in promoting women’s cricket, giving players more exposure, financial rewards, and opportunities to play with and against some of the best in the world.

India can get its first trophy with the young team and WPL experience

Like IPL, it took a long time for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) to start in India. It could start only last year in 2023. Both times the team led by the Indian captain was successful, but the biggest advantage of the tournament was for India in the form of young players. Players like Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaq, Sajivana Sajna, and Asha Shobhana met in this tournament. Out of which 3 have also made it to the World Cup squad.

The team includes experienced players like Mandhana, Harmanpreet, Jemima, and Deepti, along with young players like Shreyanka, Shefali, Richa Ghosh, and Pooja Vastrakar. India defeated both England and Australia in the T20 series last year. Tournaments like the WPL also taught Indian players to handle pressure; hence, the team is also a big contender to become the champion.

The Women’s Premier League has given India a very important all-rounder in the form of Shreyanka Patil.

Challenge for India to become champion from here in Group of Death

India is now entering the T20 World Cup for the 9th time with a young team and painful memories of past defeats. Australia and New Zealand are the ones who have defeated India the most number of times by knockout in Group A. The same group also includes arch-rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which defeated them in the Asia Cup final this year. India faces a big challenge to emerge from this group of death and become a champion.

Neeraj Chopra is a name synonymous with Indian sports excellence. He is a javelin thrower who made history by becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics. His victory at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was a watershed moment for Indian sports.

Subedar Major Neeraj Chopra PVSM VSM OLY (born 24 December 1997) is an Indian track and field athlete competing in javelin throw. He became the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal after he won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics. He was also the first Asian to win gold in the javelin throw event after his win at the 2023 World Championship.

Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, not the gold. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold in a historic win.

Chopra’s achievements remain incredibly impressive, and this minor detail doesn’t diminish his status as a sporting icon. He’s still the first Indian to win an Olympic gold in athletics and holds numerous other records and titles.

Early life and Education

Early Life

Born in the humble village of Khandra in the Panipat district of Haryana, India, Neeraj Chopra comes from an agricultural family. His father, Satish Kumar, is a farmer, and his mother, Saroj Devi, is a homemaker. Growing up in a large family, Neeraj was the eldest of three siblings.

Education

Neeraj completed his early education at a local school in his village. He later moved to Chandigarh to pursue his higher studies at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic (DAV) College. Despite his growing athletic prowess, he maintained a focus on academics.

It’s interesting to note that Neeraj’s journey to becoming a world-class athlete began with overcoming weight issues. To address this, he joined a local gymnasium, where he discovered his talent for javelin throw.

Neeraj Chopra’s Early Career

Neeraj Chopra’s journey from a village boy to a global sporting icon began with humble beginnings.

Discovery of Talent: Initially struggling with weight issues, Neeraj joined a local gymnasium to improve his fitness. It was here that he was introduced to javelin throw. His natural ability was quickly apparent as he could throw over 40 meters without formal training.

Mentorship: Recognizing Neeraj’s potential, experienced javelin thrower Jaiveer Choudhary took him under his wing. Under Choudhary’s guidance, Neeraj honed his skills and began to make significant progress.

Indian professional shooter Swapnil Kusale was born on August 6, 1995, in a small town of Kambalwadi, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, India. He competes in the 50-meter rifle three positions event. His meteoric rise from a poor rural lad to an Olympic medallist is evidence of his amazing talents and steadfast perseverance.

Early Life and Discovery

Swapnil’s journey into the world of shooting began in 2009 when his father enrolled him in the Maharashtra government’s Krida Prabhodini sports program. After a year of rigorous physical training, Swapnil had to choose a sport to specialize in, and he gravitated towards shooting. Little did he know then that this decision would change his life forever.

The Road to Success

Swapnil faced several difficulties along the way to becoming a top shooter. He had to balance his desire to pursue photography with his work as a ticket collector for the Indian Railways in Pune due to financial limitations. However, he advanced because of his steadfast attention and love for the game.

Swapnil’s perseverance paid off in 2015 when he eventually bought his first firearm. His career took a significant turn after this, as he started to improve and compete at a higher level. Eventually, his determination and hard effort allowed him to represent India internationally.

The Historic Bronze

Swapnil’s breakthrough moment came at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Competing in the men’s 50-meter rifle three positions event, he displayed exceptional composure and skill to clinch the bronze medal. This historic achievement made him the first Indian to win a medal in this event at the Olympics and brought immense pride and joy to the nation.

Swapnil’s Journey: An Inspiration

In India, millions of aspiring athletes find inspiration in the life story of Swapnil Kusale. Dreams, perseverance, and hard work can take you far in life. His journey from a small village to the Olympic podium is proof of that. His achievements demonstrate that anyone can achieve greatness and overcome any difficulty with commitment and resolve.

In addition to representing a personal victory, Swapnil’s bronze medal from the Olympics represents India’s rising dominance in the shooting sports. It has sparked a renewed national interest in the sport, and a lot of young athletes are now looking up to him as an inspiration.

Swapnil’s journey is far from done, as he continues to represent India on the international arena. With his talent, drive, and other citizens’ support, he is certain to reach even higher heights in the going forward.
