Vaibhav Suryavanshi (born March 27, 2011) is a young Indian cricketer who is quickly becoming one of the most exciting talents in the country. Hailing from Tajpur, Samastipur, Bihar, this left-handed batsman and part-time slow left-arm orthodox bowler has already broken several records at a very young age. Currently, he plays for Bihar in domestic cricket and for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His journey is a true example of his talent and hard work.
Early Life and Background of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav was born into a simple family in Bihar. His passion for cricket was clear from a very young age. His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, a farmer with a love for cricket, noticed his son’s special talent early. Vaibhav started playing cricket at the age of four, with his father being his first coach. To support Vaibhav’s dreams, his father made many sacrifices, even selling part of his farmland to pay for his training. At nine years old, Vaibhav joined a cricket academy in Samastipur and later trained under Manish Ojha, a former Ranji Trophy cricketer.
Domestic Cricket Career of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav’s skills shone brightly in age-group tournaments. He made headlines at just 12 years old by scoring 400 runs in five matches for Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. This brilliant performance helped him get selected for Bihar’s Ranji Trophy squad.
Record-Breaking First-Class Debut
In January 2024, Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai at the age of 12 years and 284 days. This made him the second-youngest cricketer to play in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar and the fourth-youngest overall in the tournament’s history. He broke the modern-era record held by Yuvraj Singh (15 years and 57 days), becoming the youngest first-class debutant after Alimuddin in 1942-43.

Youngest in T20 and List A Cricket
Vaibhav continued to create history in other formats. In November 2024, at 13 years and 241 days, he became the youngest player to debut in T20 cricket, playing for Bihar against Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In December 2024, he also became the youngest Indian to play List A cricket, making his debut for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at 13 years and 269 days.
India Under-19 Recognition
Thanks to his consistent performances, Vaibhav got selected for the India B Under-19 team in 2023, where he scored 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries. In September 2024, he made his debut for India Under-19 against Australia Under-19s and impressed everyone by hitting a 58-ball century — the fastest by any Indian Under-19 player and the second-fastest in Under-19 international cricket history.
Indian Premier League (IPL) Journey
Vaibhav’s talent soon caught the eyes of IPL franchises. Before the IPL 2025 auction, he was called for trials by the Rajasthan Royals. He impressed everyone and was shortlisted, becoming the youngest player to enter the auction at just 13 years old.
Youngest IPL Debutant and Centurion
On April 19, 2025, Vaibhav made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants at the age of 14 years and 23 days, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the IPL. He hit a six off his very first ball and scored a confident 34 runs. Just a few days later, on April 28, 2025, he became the youngest player to score a century in IPL history, smashing a brilliant 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. This was the second-fastest century in IPL history and the fastest by an Indian.
